“We bring them the plague and they do not know it.”; Propaganda and President Trump

I do feel secure in presuming that I’m not the only American who didn’t vote in 2016. I also feel no guilt watching President Trump on TV, reading his Tweets, listening to his “alternative facts,” or learning more about how his decisions and actions ruffle and offend my fellow human beings at home and abroad. However, my hope President Trump’s banter or rather verbal jousting, would turn into instructive talking points is fading.

CNN had a clip of John McCain righteously criticizing Trump over his pro reconciliation stance toward an ancient country by European  standards. The largest Eurasian country that ever existed, originally was called Russia. After the October Revolution, for sixty some odd years the country was known by more pseudonyms than any other country in Europe. McCain’s opinion of Trump’s stance was crystal clear. But his logic…. failed with me in a curious way. That’s right. Pardon me sir for saying as much.

John McCain begged the question folks. While it may be standard rhetorical practice and while the intent does retain integral power, I’m questioning its deployment. He used the word MORALITY and he used it AS AN ABSOLUTE VALUE and he didn’t blink or pause.

Mr. McCain I know you of all people don’t need me to ask YOUR PARDON for pointing out that you know what begging the question is in visceral way. You don’t need the likes of me, who never served in the armed forces, who doesn’t and hasn’t attended church in quite sometime, to tell you or explain to anyone how and why that move to speak on your part, constitues one step forward and at least one step back. All global humanity still has time to make time. Time to think of Freud and Wittgenstein as some cross their fingers while others around us make a sign of the cross, that your word choice includes more THAN TWO STEPS in logic.

Absolute value? After Bosnia? Absolute value after Benghazi? Absolute value. Is the Bowling Green massacre an example of an absolute value on the same scale? Why not? For whom? The Ivy League University that is developing the meme further or the pizza joint that a client told me yesterday coined the meme?

Donald Trump is what the private sector allowed him to become and until now, has permitted him to be. Mr. McCain, I’m not going to tell you or anyone anything about anything at all. I am going to mention what I didn’t hear you say. I didn’t even hear it implied in the CNN news clip of you addressing Congress.

I did not hear you say:

a.) The freedom of American citizens to travel abroad has been theoretically impinged by the ACA (affordable care act’s) reliance on interstate commerce.

b.) The President’s comments are a bit too close to Free Speech – the bigger problem Trump’s comments are creating by example can be tied to ideology thru The First Amendment and from there, they could destabilize The Fourth Amendment’s role as a privacy shield. Doing so places an undue burden on the interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment. Etc.

c.) The President’s nominee to The Supreme Court, Gorsuch, is comming from Colorado that for the last few years has actively been testing a new policy toward a critical and crucial juncture in the legalization of Schedule I marijuana.

Mr. McCain I didn’t hear you explaining to Congress WHAT THEY ALREADY KNOW. I didn’t hear the Fourth and Fifth Columns of American government telling me what to think or how to interpret your rebuke either.

Senator McCain, I haven’t yet watched Dame Helen Mirren’s performance in the movie Winchester but I do plan to make time. Hopefully I’ll be able to view it before I complete my paralegal associates in lieu of Graduate School. I didn’t realize my choice to continue my professional growth and development was a cause of national concern. I appreciate being notified of my subversive transgressions against the 99% of American citizens that aren’t narcissists. That aren’t fascist or communist. Free Speech indeed, that my new android phone just permitted me to write the previous sentence and didn’t label it a fragment in need of revision.

Artificial Intelligence. Oh really? With a gambler in the house?

The Edge Challenge 2017: What scientific concepts deserve to be more widely known?

image

I recently purchased a copy of Sam Harris’ book Letter to a Christian Nation. I had intended to purchase his book Free Will but changed my mind.

I could say: “Sam Harris is wrong.” But why? Why would-should I? What value can I offer my readers, Mr. Harris readers, The Edge contributors etc., by critiquing an argument I’ve not read, predicated on the logical progression of a ‘related argument’ by the same author? Would I be begging the question the author also begged? Would doing so implicate me in a formal or informal fallacy of logic? Why might a distinction between formal and informal be a barometer of sorts?

image

I was interested in his assertion that Free Will is an illusion, and I wanted to listen to a nuanced discussion of solipsism, by someone educated enough to not just know and understand what “begging the question” IS, but also someone rhetorically able to debate and teach. Someone able to frame the limitations imposed by any beliefs that “beg the question,” regardless of the paradigm.

image

I then proceeded to observe my navel and inadvertently created circumstances that support his argument. I wanted to buy his treatise on “reductionism.” I knew that my checking account was depleted. I knew that it was likely I would deplete it to danger level before my next pay day, and that should my insecure guilt catch up to me, any purchase I made thru Amazon’s used book market place, would obligate me to pay for return postage. And I bought the book I didn’t want, anyway. I bought other things. All on sale etc,.etc. And here I sit. One week till my next pay day, short on the weekly bus pass to get to work beginning tomorrow and just as shameful, I’m now short of the Uber/Lyft cab fare necessary to get TO CLASS where I’m working on my paralegal associates to compliment my undergraduate degree.

The name of this blog is Borderlands of Health and Wellness. Just in case you’ve forgot.

My fellow Americans, I am a biological member of a family that votes Republican. I currently live in Tennessee, just North of God’s Country, known to fellow Americans and expatriates as The Grid Iron Throne. Alabama.

On my mother’s nuclear family side, the only member SUSPECTED of voting for a member of the Democratic party in the last 65 years (because we are too estranged a unit to discuss such matters unless we intend to SHORTEN a visit, conversation, or FUTURE family get togethers) passed away on All Souls Day, 2012. The “suspect” before returning to The United States for hospice care, was an MD who worked in mental health abroad. On those visits he did make to the U.S.A. before his passing, his daughter always came first, as she should. His other family, (sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces etc. never were guaranteed a visit and got a phone call occasionally, if we were privileged.)

On my father’s side, the LAST purported Democrat, who voted for ROOSEVELT people, was the youngest son of a second wife, a progenitor who graduated from Samford University (a Baptist college affiliated with Birmingham Southern)in Birmingham Alabama and married again after his first wife’s death. What capital, assets, this progenitor possessed, paid for University educations for each of his children until his money was exhausted. My paternal grandfather, saw his father’s assets provide such boons for his siblings and knew, all that would remain for him, would be family land. So he only completed his education thru the 6th grade if I’m not mistaken, and chose to became a farmer.

Why did I begin this post with a clear appeal to scientific literacy, insinuate to the reader that the public intellectual who also promotes the results of The Edge Challenge on his website may be
a) wrong
b) leaving out information
and
c) run the risk of annoying and loosing my readers with a personal anecdote that clearly is moving in a somewhat aposterori direction?

Here’s why.

Historical mimesis. Aristotle coined the term and concept more than 2,000 years ago. There are numerous terms that describe the same phenomenon concentrated in a diverse array of subject matter. I’m choosing this term to essentially “dial down” from the clear and present concerns presented by the first 100 days of the current presidential administration. I can’t speak with complete certainty for anyone but myself, but meta narratives caught many Americans off guard since 2000 A.D. at the very least. Author Sam Harris I wager in his book, Letter to a Christian Nation has predicated his letter-tome on the premise of natural philosophy and mimesis. His argument is aesthetically dependant on begging his own question and I will wager in the paragraphs to follow that at no point, does his book, Letter to a Christian Nation bring up “Universal History.” Sam Harris could and can run circles around me, but it doesn’t change the fact that he has a red ball under a nutshell and is doing a magic trick that makes use of observer bias. It also doesn’t negate his views.

image

Regardless of who your family voted for in the 2016 election, Donald Trump has won. Regardless of the origins of The Tea Party phenomenon, it caught fire on both coasts of The United States and burned right to the center. Regardless of how ethnically diverse either political party is in fact, portrayed as, or rhetorically marketed to be, the premise any health care system is based on, operates on the scientific law that human beings have a limited shelf life. We catch fire, we wear out, burn out, burn down.

image

I dropped the ball for myself and my family (if idealism is a scientific law) buying Sam Harris book. The review I read gave me a false impression of the content to be found between its covers. Its not without value don’t get me wrong.

But when I am ready to write “The End of History and The Last Woman” I will. And not before. Consider this statement dear academics and fellow writers as my claim to this book, paper and treatise. Don’t touch my book title Mary Shelley.

image

I dropped the ball the moment I walked into the Macy’s at The Mall at Green Hills in Nashville and walked to the jewelry clearance rack and purchased Ralph Lauren, Lora and Lilly and INC, item(s.) I got great deals on the prices. I can accept cash tips that MAY allow me to cover my self imposed shortfall before my next pay day. But I’m NOT guaranteed CASH TIPS. EVER. No wellness employer hands out cash to employees at the end of each shift in advance of tips left on credit or debit cards. I just essentially GAMBLED big time for the wrong reasons. Or did I?

Free Will. Free Will? Free. Free? Will. Etc,.

Where is intentionality now? Where is the individual? Am I alone in a forest listening for a falling tree, or am I listening to the delicate sounds of Sturm and Drang? Is it a fallacy of equivocation on my part or let’s say Mr. Harris himself, if he contacted me to state correctly, that to berate myself for my actions would be a morally baseless and abusive action ONLY if I had failed to calculate the odds of receiving cash tips alongside the intervals of time between the point of purchase, number of work days and my departure for my next class?

REDUX

Moral. Not Mortal. Moral. I will now make a bet with my readers. I will wager a guest blogger article hosted on both this blog and my personal blog, Ashley M. Heidi Carter, that in his book Letter to a Christian Nation, author Sam Harris AT NO TIME draws a Direct dual link between ontology, either theological or philosophical and aesthetics. I wager he never mentions Avveroes (Ibn Rushid’s) The Double Truth. I also wager, he never calls Universal History by that name. To do so…

I know I can and believe many of my readers could, choose a variety of substitute concepts to replace the innate diversity of aesthetics, and still communicate the notion that although human reason can demonstrably exist apart and independent of a divine creator, the idea of ‘natural law’ is bifurcated to include the unknown variable.

Manifest Destiny. Destiny made manifest?

Civics 101 ladies and gents! The Bill of Rights is not a legally binding document. Abraham Lincoln is quoted as saying the document “Is a REBUKE.” In America we have inalienable rights. The Bill of Rights famously includes a fallacy of equivocation that HAS BEEN USED TO CREATE THE ILLUSION OF MANIFEST DESTINY IN PERPETUITY. Historically, NO GOVERNMENT can legislate the ontological ACCORDING TO GENRE…and law. Are you sure about that Free Will fallacy Sam? Can I trust your judgement Sam? How far can any of “US” trust you with a Free Will argument today, The 30th of January, 2016. The day the Associate Attorney General of The United States resigned or was fired? Free Will?

image

Averroes. Ibn Rushid. The Double Truth. Former President Obama and current POTUS Trump DID NOT EXCHANGE SPOUSES. Let’s ALL REMEMBER NOT TO BEG THE QUESTION (s) of sociology, cultural arrogance and aesthetics. Let’s all remember that axiology is the step child of epistemology and proceed accordingly to our better judgment:Even though none other than Ronald Regan himself was once PURPORTED to have called Osama Bin Laden a “Freedom Fighter.” I think that “quote” deserves a “Fact Check.” If Idolatry is “the problem” why should Sam Harris get a pass for a “IDEOlogical fallacy” rather than a “white lie?”

Thought for the Day: Defining Bullshit

The Chronicle of Higher Education has just made my day, or rather two professors at The University of Washington. It’s a crying shame they aren’t located in D.C. and/or that they haven’t YET exported their wit to every State in the Union.

Here is the opening line from The Chronicle’s current Post Truth issue:

“Facts and figures are like cow pastures. Unless you squint, you can’t always tell how full of bullshit they are.”

That’s correct readers. It seems AT LEAST TWO tenured (?) academics have struck marketing gold! At my Alma Matter, the class was titled Borderlands of Science and Religion and you can view the wit who created it, under this blog’s About tab.

The current Chronicle article has a Q & A with the academics in question and I recommend giving it a read.

Apothecanna: Cannibis infused Spa products

image

Where there’s smoke there is fire and the cannabis cloud over Colorado appears to be lingering like smog on a otherwise clear day. Cannabis proponent Apothecanna has positioned itself beyond the pale, as an adjunct measure in pain management and only time will tell if they can remain straight enough to keep their wellness branding intact.

I wrote this piece originally in June of 2015 and removed it from this blog over a reservation about logical reasoning summed up simply by “begging the question.” But let’s talk products for now.

image

Apothecanna does offer a variety of scents that leave the 1960’s behind.

The statement on their website detailing the benefits of their “natural” products Topical Cannabis, Hemp Lotion, & THC Spray (located under the tab “learn” and “apothecanna massage”) is simple and basic:

Revitalizing botanicals like arnica and capsaicin combine with topical marijuana to provide natural herbal pain relief .

The Marketing is both Spartan and clever.

“Here at Apothecanna, we’re committed to providing innovative topical pain relievers that combine topical cannabis with other healing and soothing botanicals for a more natural option for topical pain relief. Unlike conventional topical pain relief cream products, our cannabis calming cream offer pain relief without unpleasant “medicine” scents, instead incorporating sense-soothing botanicals like lavender, chamomile, and frankincense. These botanicals make using our topical marijuana products more enjoyable, contributing to a sense of well being that can aid the healing process. In addition to our full line of cannabis cream and THC spray products for pain relief, which are available at over 200 Colorado medical marijuana centers, we also offer several invigorating, calming, and pain relieving cream products made with hemp and arnica cream, as well as other botanicals to soothe your skin as well as your senses.”

Rejuvenate your skin and senses with topical cannabis cream and botanical skin therapies from Apothecanna.

Under the “About” tab are three discreet paragraphs that provide a brief nod to both legality and their position on the role of natural philosophy in society at large.

image

By reordering the brands statements, it may be a bit more obvious to educated consumers and those who question the politics involved, how the advent of Apothecanna will impact the Spa and Wellness Industry. And in particular, the Professional Massage Community which may utilize such products IN TANDEM with mainstream pain management professionals.

Let’s break it down like any syllogism, but let’s do it backwards and examine the logic of the marketing.

“Our mission at Apothecanna is to spread the wisdom of traditional plant medicine. We believe in the fundamental right of access to the healing powers of nature and promote sustainable interaction with the world around us.”

Preceeding this ‘tidbit’ is the following ‘tidbit.”

“We do not use artificial ingredients, fillers, parabens and only test on humans. We believe that natural treatments are the best treatments, and strive to create products with uncompromised purity, quality, and functionality.”

And the page begins with this introduction:

“Apothecanna is a natural apothecary featuring cannabis extract as the primary active ingredient due to its potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Our formulations combine cannabis with other organic and wild crafted essential oils to create highly functional topical treatments for pain and stress relief, while delivering a host of skin nurturing benefits.”

Viewed and analyzed from last statement to first, Apothecanna’s marketing strategy seems to be suffering from marijuana induced paranoia if not ordinary anxiety. Remember this assessment proceeds in reverse order from their official website circa 2015!

image

The first (last) CLAIM Apothecanna puts forward, is that their products have scientifically proven value. (This is TRUE of Cannabis- as science has admitted.)

The second or (middle) premise Apothecanna offers is that their products are 100% “Natural” and that they TEST only on humans.

In the third (first) STATEMENT that in traditional logic would be called a premise, Apothecanna DOES INDEED draw a CONCLUSION predicated on the two preceding premises! Want some pseudoscience wellness professionals or just a side of religion to go with your own and your clients health investments?

Consumers are informed of Apothecannas “rights” and significantly there is an appeal to nature for sovereign status as if this is an innate right, protected by the United States constitution and by the State of Colorado. Don’t choke on Abraham Lincoln’s comment that The Bill of rights “Is a REBUKE” or the fact that it’s not A LAW in or of itself. 4th amendment is mere Axiology? Taste? Genre?

Oh my! Isn’t this Gnosticism Mitt Romney’s and John McCain’s territory? Colorado did have a FEMALE TEA PARTY INCUMBENT BATTLE DIDN’T THEY…

Since when does any government, at the national or state level have an ability to regulate “unalienable” rights? Gnosticism, gender and Lawd at all the LEGAL PROSTITUTION NEXT DOOR IN NEVADA…Neither LEGAL governing body DOES have that right pro Mblex crusaders. American laws deal with ‘inalienable rights.’ LOOK AT THAT “science based” MARKETING NOW.

The “premise” that any class system is subject to the economic system, which is presumably subject to the political system, which in turn is subject to the legal system, which then, and only then, is subject to a religious system…with an ethical framework, such as one that acknowledges and ensures ‘rights‘ which entail free will, are now on display.

Given that in 99% if not most instances, the defacto and default premise that an esthetics license is required, in addition to a Bachelor’s degree to work for a Professional Spa Product Line and that LMT’s with a Bachelor’s degree are overlooked if they have no outside B2B sales experience ought to give the Spa and Esthetics industry something to mull over when considering the SUBSTANCE of education.

Consider for instance this “new” education offering that is scarcely 20 years old: Disability Studies. It would seem “science” v. “management” rather than “pain” is the canker sore in the post-modern lotus?

image

I will leave it to the “moral educators” with political axes to grind about bell jars, States right’s, healthcare and massage monopolies on entry level right to practice (that the FSMTB fails to call collusion but most certainly calls patriotism,) to pander to their fellow citizens about universal relativism and plan for the future conspiracy theories this trend will no doubt spawn.

Until Next Time Campers!

Repeal and Replace: “We’re doing THE DEMOCRATS a service.”

Like many of us around the world, I’m watching President elect Trumps press conference. Am I the only one staggering over the idealism in play? Apparently not: this news conference is being held in part over stock market fluctuations related to some of his comments. I’m not ready to speak to what I’m hearing point by point, but I stand by the insight and measured appraisal of my fellow citizens that this man may prove to be the best choice for America and the global economy right now.

It’s an exciting time for me, to be starting a new semester-quarter working toward my paralegal with Trump heading into office. I’ve had and continue to have, personal baggage that is worthy of grief, bitterness and THERAPY. I’m almost confused by the combination of reality and motivation Trump seems to clarify for me, simply by being HIMSELF. I realize that many people around the world find him to be out of sync with his fellow human beings. The degree of his deviations from what many DO CALL idealism, obscures difference about natural philosophy and definitions of idealism generally. Folks, this is THE BIG STUFF…My eyes truly are wide as flying saucers and I’ve not felt so comfortable IN HISTORY as I do now. I’ve been uncomfortable for OVER TEN YEARS. I’m not comfortable now but I’m a bit more comfortable than I’ve been which is an improvement. Wiggle Room!

I am holding back an opinion for the interim about idealism. Here’s why: For any conscious actor, any individual, seeking to erect universal standards applicable for human beings IN ADDITION TOO oneself, dualism is the most insidious counterpoint. Dualism itself includes double standards by default. At LEAST TWO SETS OF BOOKS: AXIOLOGY.

Since I’m my first and only student, this is MY QUESTION: At what point is AXIOLOGY REFLEXIVE? My question for others, is at what point, does the question two paragraphs above depart FROM “Both-And” and become an equivocation fallacy that creates a separate “peace,” politely speaking?

Ideology is suspected of solipsism around the world logically. Given this, what am I, what are we, how are YOU DEAR READER, categorizing and allocating VALUE?

2017 and Kon Mari Method

Marie Kondo’s book The life changing magic of tidying up became a best seller not too many years ago. She followed up with a guide book titled Spark Joy: an illustrated master class on the art of organizing and tidying up.

I picked up her guide book last November and I’m slowly putting her method to work for me. The Kon Mari Method as it’s now known is basic, which truly is more delightful than may first be apparent. There are six principles or rules to work within.

Principle 1: Commit yourself to creating change in your habits and manner of living.

Principle 2: Imagine your IDEAL lifestyle. Really devote some time to describing the way you want to live. It may NOT be a bad idea for the introspective to also note how you feel, not only about your distance from your goal, but also IF attaining your ideal living style may change you. Why is this a valuable step? As the author says, “When you imagine your ideal lifestyle, you are actually clarifying WHY YOU WANT TO TIDY and identifying the kind of life you want to live, WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED.”

Principle 3: Finish discarding first.
Begin by discarding – EVERYTHING. When you think you have, check again. Cleaning and storing your belongings is not “tidying.” How can you plan to store belongings unless you first know what’s in your inventory? No “business” could be financially successful if it didn’t track it’s goods. Respect yourself and your earnings by discarding what doesn’t add to your values.

Principle 4: Tidy by category not location. The Fly Lady Cleaning Method makes good use of room by room tidying for those who struggle to focus. For others, the 15 minute bursts of cleaning as you travel room to room often results in shuffling items through the home and changing their locations which can obscure taking a full inventory of the items they own and possess. If you are confronted with a heap of clothing in your laundry room but do not place this heap beside all the clothing in your bedroom closets, the clothing in your storage, your coat rack beside your front door etc, you will not be able to take stock of any category of clothing that may be overabundant, under represented, or simply unnecessary.

Here is some inspiration for you!

image

image

image

These are simply the pictures I am willing to share…what does this tell you?

It actually is SLOWLY turning into this:

image

The lighting is awful it’s true. I will update with some pride as it happens. But back to the principles of Kon Mari…

Principle 5: Follow the correct order. In Kon Mari practice the correct order (taxonomy) is clothing, books, papers, komono (miscellany) and last, sentimental items. She is adamant that it’s this way for a reason that becomes self evident with practice. Her reasoning is the distracting affect that all inventory of ones personal investments can have on us. It’s also the spring that gave The Fly Lady cleaning method it’s readership and adherents.

Principle 6: Does it “Spark Joy?” If an item, ANY ITEM, DOES NOT THRILL YOU – GET RID OF IT. Don’t ask Padwan. Throw it OUT, donate it, take it to Good Will, Salvation Army, your place of worship, a school etc. But THANK THE ITEM and allow others to give it new meaning, value, purposes and say goodbye. You aren’t choosing what to discard; Your choosing WHAT TO KEEP! As she states eloquently on page 8, “By letting go of the things that have been in your life with a feeling of gratitude, you foster appreciation for, and a desire TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF, the things IN your life.”

So have I just made it sound extreme? It is for some of us I think. I think she’s right. I’ve been working on clothing for over a week. So far, I have organized each and EVERY clothing drawer and closet in an orderly fashion so I CAN ACTUALLY SEE WHAT I HAVE TO CHOOSE FROM! The horrors of ill informed decisions indeed have global impact. If you doubt me, remember that a true David Bowie fan once said “What is wrong with a mullet?”

image

And then they saw this twist on the mullet:

image

But we can all see the presence of prison agent orange…hanging in there…and so sprung a Revenge of Grunge 2015 moment on unsuspecting but “thoughtful” bohemians that looked (s) like this:

image

But we all know it didn’t END here did it? This is where it ends…

image

Remember those messy, unsightly, bat-crap-shit crazy disordered pictures above that display my disrespectful attitude towards my own earning power? The ones with obscene clutter on top of every surface in my domicile? For every “Joe Dirt” there is a “Bargain Betty” who shops Wal-Mart for everything she owns, in six rainbow colors that are worn a few times rather than one single piece of true tailored fashion that carries it’s value over DECADES. EVEN a simple Wal-Mart sweater that is WORN WITH JOY MORE THAN ONCE A MONTH UNTIL IT’S TOO THREADBARE TO BE WORN AGAIN is more respected than a drawer full of color coordinates beautifully stored but worn only twice a year.

Pick and choose for life is NOW. It’s not for “someday” in a “galaxy far, far away.”

Live now. Be joyful as much as one can. Regrets happen. War happens. And life ends sooner or later. Joy also happens. Miracles are ‘relative’ in the eyes of the witness not the recipient.

Let Go.

Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska

“Your always one generation away from the loss of freedom.”

“41% of Americans under 35 polled, believe the First Amendment is DANGEROUS.”

“In the Carter administration, the average duration at a firm was STILL 26 years.”

“The number one issue of concern in New Hampshire right now is drug abuse.”

Question: What will a robust defense of the first amendment look like in the future?

Random comment: President Barack Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe are touring Pearl Harbor together. I’ve just started crying. I see them walking together. Two men strangers to one another and to me. Brought into my experience by the daughters of my maternal uncles and as men influencing the world that my cousins and I have inherited from our father’s. I see my younger self and little girl fights about who wouldn’t share toys, who said something mean, who is the real tattle “tale” and I see Lindsey and Ana’s fathers, both having lived in Japan, both holding different levels of professional practice in mental health. And then there is MY DADDY…and I wonder. I wonder about De Tocqueville and the admission he made about the surprise Europeans then had about voluntary uncohersed American community involvement and action. I see the Prime Minister and his last name and wonder not if, but when Paris Syndrome will descend upon the next generation?

image

I look at President Obama, and it so happens I can admit that I appreciate Cspan’s programming choice to broadcast Romeo and Juliet’s mock trial immediately after the story above, in anticipated acknowledgement of viewers such as myself and others.

image

Senator Sasse is a Historian by training. I attended my father’s Alma Matter where he majored in History and had a professor who it could be argued, “indoctrinated” him with an eye on a narrow glance at European American historiography and governments from DeTocqueville. The Senator made a simple an accurate philosophical statement that “society” predates government.

And yet I’ve paused. I can’t bring my mind turn some inner corner, as if doing so would negate my own experience or being. And I’m almost confused…as if a question is missing. As if a memory somehow forgotten or misplaced is preventing me from recognition of a crucial difference that requires and deserves respect and the perceived absence inhibits me and my understanding and awareness.

Ah! The Cspan audience is now voting on whom has a greater liability: Friar Lawrence or “the parents” in Romeo and Juliet. Fittingly, red and blue are symbolic tokens to denote each vote.

Deep Christmas morning thoughts.

Merry Christmas Everyone. May we all appreciate our unique blessings, individually, culturally and as human beings. Namaste.

The audience freed Friar Lawrence from liability (red chips) and indicted the PARENTS (blue chips.)
